Probiotics are live beneficial bacteria that lives inside your body, particuarly the gut. We normally think bacteria means bad, but there is such thing as good bacteria. Good bacteria such as probiotics keeps your body healthy and functioning well. And we want that for our babies.

Research has shown that probiotics may:

  • restore the natural balance of bacteria in the gut and boost presence of good bacteria (especially helpful when taking antibiotics)
  • decrease symptoms of gastrointestinal issues (such as irritable bowel sydrome or diarrhea caused by antibitoics)
  • support immune function (keeping bad bacteria from causing sickness)

Probiotics can be found in:

  • dairy products (yogurt, kefir)
  • fermented foods (sauerkraut, kimchi, sourdough bread)
  • supplements (probiotic liquid drops or pills)

A 2014 research study demonstrated that treating healthy babies in their first three months with Lactobacillus Reuters (a specific probiotic) helped to avoid the onset of GI conditions (such as reflux and constipation) as well as reduce overall crying time (yes, we said REDUCED CRYING TIME!).
